Anti-depressants for IBS?

Hi my friend:

I got a good but disturbing question Monday from a lady
named Lisa.

Here's what she says:

*******************

Sherry:

I have an 8 1/2 year old daughter that has been miserable
for the last 5 months.  She has undergone numerous tests
and procedures, and the G.I. doctor has diagnosed her with
gastritis and IBS.

She is on a low dose anti-depressant (to calm things
down), Prevacid & an anti-nausea medicine as needed.

She hasn't had the pain that is typically associated with
IBS, but she's in a nearly constant state of nausea though.
Would this program be beneficial for her?

Sincerely,
Lisa Graham

SB:  Lisa, yes Great Taste No Pain will help your daughter.

Here's why:

Gastritis and IBS are both the result of too much acidity
in the stomach and poorly digested food.

Each food we eat requires a specific type of enzyme for
digestion.  And when foods are eaten in "unfriendly"
combinations, opposing digestive enzymes mix together and
end up neutralizing the pH in the stomach.

When this happens, digestion comes to a screeching halt.

Now, the body is smart and knows something's wrong, so it
tells the stomach to secrete more acid trying to get the
food moving through.  But since the bad combination of food
is still in there the newly secreted acid gets neutralized
again.

This cycle can go on for hours and hours.  And all that
excess acid leads to things like acid reflux, gerd and
GASTRITIS.

When the food finally passes to the intestines, it's not
digested as well as it needs to be.  What results then is
gas, bloating, constipation and diarrhea--all the classic
symptoms of IBS.

That's where the lessons you'll get in Great Taste No Pain
comes in to save the day, and save your daughter.

It teaches you how to correctly combine delicious meals to
keep acid low and help foods be digested easily and
thoroughly.

Low acid + well digested food = no IBS or gastritis.

What makes Great Taste No Pain so easy and kid-friendly is
that the recipes (if you choose to use them) are downright
SCRUMPTIOUS.  Plus I also teach you how to eat foods you
already love and what you should eat with them to avoid
acid and pain.

So your daughter will still be able to eat foods she
loves, she'll get to try a bunch of yummy new things, and
best of all, she'll finally start to feel great--without
the drugs.

Now for the "advice" you've been given by her GI doctor:

I put "advice" in quotes because what you've received is
anything but advice.  You've received brain-altering
chemicals that do absolutely NOTHING to address the true
cause of your daughter's suffering by yet another
representative for the pharmaceutical companies that can't
think of anything else to suggest because he has no bloody
idea why your daughter is feeling like she is.

Strong?  I make no apologies.  It should be strong.

That doctor should hide his head in shame for putting an 8
year-old little girl on anti-depressants to "calm her
stomach down."

Anti-depressants do absolutely, positively NOTHING to calm
down someone's stomach.  They haven't even been tested for
that purpose, on children or adults--so your daughter has
become a lab rat.

They're downright harmful to the brains of people of ANY
age.  If you doubt what I'm saying, Google "Prozac side
effects" or whatever anti-depressant she's on and read it
for yourself.

Better yet, get the book "Prozac Backlash: Overcoming the
Dangers of Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, and Other Antidepressants
with Safe, Effective Alternatives" by Joseph Glenmullen,
MD.  You will not believe what these multi-billion dollar
behemoths are selling us.

Other great resources are:

"The Truth About the Drug Companies: How They Deceive Us
and What to Do About It" by Marcia Angell, MD

"The Side Effects Bible: The Dietary Solution to Unwanted
Side Effects of Common Medications" by Frederic Vagnini, MD

Prevacid is no peach, either (you'll see more on that
below).  It comes with its own huge list of adverse
reactions and side effects, plus it does nothing to
eliminate the cause of IBS or gastritis.

Lisa, your daughter's body is trying to tell her
something.  It can't handle how she's eating.  Listen to
it.  Don't just drug her and mask her symptoms and (God
forbid) make her susceptible to the side effects of those
powerful drugs.

Use Great Taste No Pain, and I guarantee you'll have a
happier little girl on your hands very soon.

To your health,

Sherry Brescia

PS:  I had published this success story a few months back,
but considering the nature of Lisa's question, I want to
publish it again:

*******************

Dear Sherry,

I eyed your website over the course of a good month before
I bought your manuals and cookbook, with an eye roll to
myself, believing I had been suckered into an internet
scam.  I even believed you had probably written the
testimonies I was receiving on the internet.

But, I had hope.  For the sake of my eleven-year-old
daughter, who was suffering, I gave it a try.  Thank God.

For nearly eleven years, my daughter had no health
problems to speak of, and could eat anything without
consequences.  Quite suddenly, however, she became
nauseous, lethargic, and had no appetite.  I thought it
was a stomach bug that would go away.

Nearly two weeks later, her pediatrician and two G.I.
doctor friends of mine advised me to put her on Prilosec
OTC, which did nothing.  Later, she was put on Prevacid,
which at least got her off the couch and back into life.
Yet, she still drank Maalox like milk, slept propped up on
four pillows, and lost interest in fun 11-year-old
activities like sleep-overs.

This went on for five months before I discovered your
nutrition plan and talked to my daughter about trying it.
After just one day, she was so happy to go to bed for the
first time in months, with no antacids, lying flat!  No
reflux!!

After about four or five days of no GI problems, she began
talking to me about symptoms she had not complained about
before because she figured it was all part of her digestive
problems.

She said that for months, she'd had a constant "deja vu"
feeling, like she'd been in a fog all the time.  She
admitted to blurred vision that would come and go along
with vertigo, light-headedness, an inability to sleep at
night, heavy hands and feet, and hand tremors.

It was as if her abdominal pain had been center stage, and
the other problems background noise in comparison.  Now
that she was pain free, THEY were center stage.  I never
knew she had felt so bad all the time!  I thought she was
just going through the typical "adolescent blues."

For some reason, I didn't link these symptoms right away
to the Prevacid.  Instead, I took her to the pediatrician,
who in turn made an appointment with a pediatric
neurologist.

The night before the neurologist appointment, it just
dawned on me to look up the side effects of Prevacid on the
internet.

There they were!  Every one of her problems!  The next
morning, she skipped Prevacid (and the neurologist), and
watched very carefully how she fueled her body.

She's been following your plan (without Prevacid!) for
just over a week, now.  For just over a week, I have had my
happy, energetic, spirited daughter back again.  She smiles
again!  She jumps, plays, laughs, and lives again!!!
Completely symptom free!

Thank you seems so trite and insignificant for the
gratitude I have.

God bless you and your work!  I'm so sorry I thought your
plan too good to be true.
