The 4 options for ulcerative colitis

One of the most painful digestive conditions plaguing
humans is ulcerative colitis.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a condition where inflammation
and sores form in the lining of the large intestine (colon)
and rectum.  The inflammation kills the healthy cells in
the colon wall.  Then the resulting sores bleed and produce
pus.

The most common symptoms are wicked stomach cramps and
bloody diarrhea, and flare-ups can occur anytime with no
warning.

There are a few different "routes" that people with UC can
take once they reach the fork in the road...and three of
them are not good.

====================
The fiber-less route
====================

People who have UC are usually told to avoid high fiber
foods (like fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains)
because they supposedly cause or instigate the diarrhea.

Complete hogwash.

The colitis, acidic foods and poorly combined foods are
what is causing the diarrhea--NOT fruits and vegetables.

Fruits, vegetables and grains are essential to keeping
acidity low in the body and making sure you get proper
nourishment.  Not eating them is basically starving
yourself and asking to be even sicker.

=================
The drug route
=================

UC sufferers are usually given drugs that cause a host of
problems on their own.

Take a look at the side effects for the typical UC drugs:

1 - Aminosalicylates (like Asacol, Pentasa, Azulfidine and
Mezavant):  Side effects include nausea, vomiting,
heartburn, diarrhea, and headache.  (Note that diarrhea is
one of the biggest problems with UC--and these medicines
CAUSE it.)

2 - Steroids (like Celestone, Decadron, Prednisone and
Clinicort):  Can cause weight gain, acne, increased blood
sugar, high blood pressure, diabetes, mood swings, bone
mass loss, cataracts, and an increased risk of infection.

3 - Immunomodulators (includes Methotrexate, Thalidomide,
Azathioprine):  People taking these drugs need to be
closely monitored for complications like pancreatitis,
hepatitis, a reduced white blood cell count and an
increased risk of infection.

They also cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach
ulcers, rashes and liver inflammation.  (Sure--move the
inflammation from the colon to the liver--why not?  And
have some more diarrhea while you're at it.)

More hogwash.  You're exchanging one problem for another
(or several others)...and any relief from the colon
inflammation that you get from the drugs is temporary at
best.

===============
The knife route
===============

An estimated 25% - 40% of people with ulcerative colitis
end up having their colon completely removed.

And there's a good chance they can end up with an
ileostomy (where the doctor makes a permanent hole in the
abdomen, attaches the end of the small intestine to the
hole, and the person wears a plastic pouch over the hole to
catch waste 24 hours a day).

Or, the doctor can attach the small intestine to the
rectum (called ileoanal anastomosis), and you get loose
BM's and stool leakage because your digestion isn't
finished as it should be because you no longer have your
large intestine.

Definitely NOT a viable option in most people's eyes.

The BEST route
==============

Why not naturally reduce acidity ALL OVER the body
(including the colon) and at the same time have bowel
movements that are smooth and regular?

Reduced acidity means less (or no) inflammation.  No
inflammation means no sores, no bleeding, no pus, etc.

And regular bowel movements = NO DIARRHEA!

Music to an UC sufferer's ears.

And Great Taste No Pain

PS:  Huw has gotten "truly amazing" relief from Ulcerative
Colitis taking the Great Taste No Pain route:

*******************
Dear Sherry:

The relief I've experienced is truly amazing!  I can't
believe that the correct combining of foods has brought
about relief so swiftly.

But let me go back to January 2008 when I started to
suffer with constant diarrhea and stomach cramps which took
me down the route of having sigmoidoscopies, barium enemas,
etc. and finally, being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis
and some Diverticular Disease. (I am a 55 year old male.)

The colitis needed to be treated in early October 2008
when I had a "flare-up" and felt particularly unwell.  I
was prescribed 4.8gm of Mezavant XL daily, and for 4 weeks
there was a calming of symptoms.

Early November 2008 I reduced the dosage to 2.4gm daily,
against medical advice, because I felt that the toxicity
was too great for me and, sure enough, that week I started
to feel nauseous, and by November 22 I had severe vomiting,
retching and feeling "like death."

Later that week I was admitted to the hospital and was
advised that it was probably a virus.

Once I started feeling a little better I started back on
the medication, with the same adverse effects, only a lot
worse.

Of course at that point I realized it was definitely the
medication, and despite any medical diagnoses, stopped the
Mezavant.  At the start when they diagnosed my condition,
my wife had asked me that once I had gone the medical route
and found it ineffective, would I then consider going the
natural route.

Well on Saturday November 29 I found your website, got the
system and immediately started the regime.

I can't believe it, but the truth of the matter is I have
had no diarrhea, and just some flatulence on the first
evening.

And now, after 6 days, although having a runny nose, I can
honestly say that I am pain free, and it's like I never had
the disease in the first place.  Truly remarkable!

(Just to mention, when I told the specialist nurse, she
just hummed and hawed and then said, "We'd better put you
on steroids.")

Thank you very much indeed for sharing this knowledge and
also for all the e-mails.

Kind regards
Huw Morgans (Wales, UK)

SB:  Huw:  That's fantastic!  I am so happy for you, but
not surprised.  And by the way, the runny nose is a sign of
"detoxing" and will go away when your body rids itself of
built-up acid and toxins.  You're on the right road!
