I was talking to a friend yesterday who told me that her
sister-in-law has a large cup of coffee and a soda for
breakfast everyday. And she drinks sodas all day long too.
My response was: "Won't be long before she has
osteoporosis."
My friend said, "I think she's getting there already.
She's only 46, very thin, physically very weak and is
already starting to hunch over. People have asked me if
she's dying. Why would this cause osteoporosis and make
her look so bad?"
Here's what I explained to my friend:
The acid effects from soda, coffee and other acid-
creating foods and food combinations don't stop in your
digestive system.
While it's true that acidity typically wreaks havoc in
the digestive tract first, causing or worsening things
like acid reflux, hiatal hernia, ulcers, gastritis,
diverticulitis and colitis, but beyond that, like a
tornado, the acid keeps going and creates damage all over
your body.
Acid wastes are absorbed into your bloodstream through
the small intestine. Then they're transported throughout
the body via the blood and are absorbed into your tissues,
organs, bones and muscles.
This puts your body in a state of inflammation and can
lead to or worsen conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia,
migraines, chronic infections, asthma, allergies, high
blood pressure and even cancer.
Now, some doctors reading this will jump up and shout
that it doesn't matter, that your body is infinitely wise
and knows that acid in your blood means BIG trouble. So
the body, they'll claim, either expels the acid or
neutralizes it.
That is true, but to neutralize the acid, your body takes
its supply of alkaline minerals and dumps them into your
blood.
To accomplish this, calcium is sapped from your bones to
neutralize the acid...so if your body is chronically
acidic for a long enough time, osteoporosis is almost a
certainty. Also, rotting teeth, brittle bones and easy
fractures.
Your muscles also give up magnesium to fight the
onslaught of acid. Not only does this cause weak muscles,
but magnesium is needed for a healthy heart, blood
vessels, bones, teeth, muscles, hormones and nerves, as
well as for stabilizing moods. It also activates hundreds
of enzymes, allowing them to perform their crucial
functions in your body.
Now, many people will think, "No problem! I'll just take
calcium and magnesium supplements."
Doesn't work like that...
Because when your body is too acidic, it can't use or
absorb vitamins and minerals from supplements or from your
food.
So any supplements you do take go right back out in your
urine and provide absolutely no benefit to your bones and
muscles. You're right back where you started, AND you
wasted money on supplements to boot.
The REAL way to prevent osteoporosis and muscle loss is
to keep the acidity low in your body, like I show you in
Great Taste No Pain.

In GTNP, I teach you about the harmful effects of acidic
foods and bad food combinations--you'll learn exactly why
this is so important. Plus I guide you on good (alkaline)
food choices, wise beverages options, and even give you a
pocket guide to use when dining out, so you can stay pain-
free and low in acid no matter where you are.
And if you like to whip up things in the kitchen, the
recipe book will help make all of your (low acid) meals
delicious.
All for the cost of about one bottle of calcium
supplements.

PS: Lee is seeing lots of great changes, including no
more joint pain:
*******************
Sherry,
I've been on your plan for about a month now. I've seen
so many changes, I have to list them out.
First of all, of course, my diverticulitis went away and
fast. I also lost a few pounds right away, which was nice.
Then I noticed my sleep improving. This is HUGE, as I
have had practically lethal insomnia, especially over the
past year, including a three-month period with no sleep at
all, then three months on sleeping pills. Now I fall
asleep naturally within a few minutes and wake up only
once or twice all night. I can't tell you what it means to
me.
Next: one of the things keeping me up at night was joint
pain in one knee and one hip. To control the pain, I had
been sleeping (for a few years) on my side with a large
pillow lodged between my legs from knee to ankle to keep
my legs parallel. But no more--the pills are gone and the
pillow is gone! I still have some stiffness in my joints,
but it is improving. I had thought that joint
replacements were a sure thing one day, but now I think I
might not need them.
Another chronic for me was constipation (that's why I
have diverticulosis). I see improvement in this every day
that I'm on your plan. Gee I'm really going to miss
plugging toilets everywhere I go (my husband says I hold
the world's record).
Moving right along, I have seen an improvement in my
libido! Wahoo! And the hot flashes I have put up with
for 10 years are subsiding, as well.
It occurs to me that for a 60-year-old I sure was putting
up with a lot of health issues!
One thing I do not want as I approach retirement is to
end up like my mom (age 93), who is on 13 meds a day for
this and that. So finally, thank you for changing my
outlook. This plan gives me pleasure, energy, rest, and
most of all, confidence that I know how to take care of
myself.
Thanks again, Sherry. Best money I ever spent. I am
telling everybody I know.
