I recently watched the movie "As Good As It Gets" with
Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. In the movie, Jack is an
OCD sufferer who won't step on a sidewalk crack, he must
have the same waitress (Hunt) serve him in his favorite
diner, and will only use his own plastic forks and knives
for fear of germs.
I can't blame him too much for the plastic flatware.
After all, there are some nasty illnesses that can be
spread by an unclean fork or knife...
Like viral gastroenteritis--also known as a "stomach bug"
or "flu bug."
Most of us have had the agony of a stomach bug--wicked bad
diarrhea and vomiting, fever, headache, chills and
abdominal pain.
And they're especially dangerous for children because the
symptoms can last for over a week and they run the risk of
dehydration which can be life-threatening.
Viral gastroenteritis is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS and the viruses
most responsible are rotavirus and norovirus. It can be
spread as easily as just touching a utensil that an
infected person has used.
It really hangs on too. Once you've had it, you can still
spread it to others for a week after your symptoms are
gone. So you're not out of the woods once the puking has
stopped.
Most medical care professionals say there's not much you
can do about viral gastroenteritis--rest, drinking fluids
and eating soft, bland foods are about it.
But there is some exciting research being done that
suggests that probiotics can help you recover faster from
viral gastroenteritis.

The Study
=======
One such study was done on 287 children who had been
hospitalized for severe diarrhea due to viral
gastroenteritis and the results were published in 2000 in
the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.
140 of the 287 children were given an ordinary electrolite
solution to drink, and the remaining 147 were given the
same solution with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG added. None
of the parents knew which solution their child had been
given.
On average, the duration of the diarrhea was reduced by
nearly 20% in the group receiving probiotics. The results
also showed that L. rhamnosus GG was especially effective
for diarrhea caused by rotavirus, reducing it by almost a
whole day.
In addition to helping shorten diarrhea, LGG has been
shown to help relieve constipation, prevent lactose
intolerance and ease symptoms of Crohn's, colitis and IBS.
Plus studies also suggest that LGG has a positive impact
on your gut barrier health. It has been shown to stimulate
antibody production and enhance phagocytosis, one of your
body's weapons for destroying invaders. And by
strengthening your gut-barrier function, LGG may have
beneficial impact on autoimmune diseases including
rheumatoid arthritis and allergies.
PS: It's vitally important to eat right too--a diet of
acid-forming foods leaves you malnourished and more
susceptible to illnesses of all kinds. Great Taste No Pain
gives you the simple principles to follow to keep your pH
more alkaline and you much healthier. Check it out at:

Sherry,
Not only am I pain free, I feel better mentally.
I "thought" I was a smart man capable of using logic to
ensure a healthy future. It was only logical that if you
followed what the government says is a healthy diet, it
should put you way ahead of the curve.
So much for that.
I had been suffering with acid reflux for the last six
years, taking antacids, taking prescription pills, and
still never knowing when I would spend a night in terrible
pain. A few days ago, I set everything that I thought was
correct aside, and started following your plan.
Now I am sure that you know what I am about to say! One
astounding THANK YOU!! Not only pain free but also
thinking clearer and just feeling all around better.
