Your Motivation To Lose The Weight

One thing I love to do when I get up at 4 am (yes, I know, I'm crazy)
is to peruse the questions that we've received from readers and clients.

This tells me what people's issues are and what they might need me to talk about in newsletters.

But every once in a while, a question just makes me say, "Huh? Did you really just ask that?"

Here is one of those questions that just made me scratch my head:

I have had 3 c-sections (2004, 2007 and 2009), a total colectomy (2010) and an uterine ablation. I have gained 50 pounds since the 2010 surgery.

What should I eat??? I do Weight Watchers points plus and it is not working...

I have your books but I need some encouragement and perhaps a jump start.

SB: Krista, with all due respect, you're basically in the window of a burning building and you're asking me to convince you to jump into the firemen's net.

If losing your colon and gaining 50 pounds isn't enough motivation to change your diet, then what is? A new disease? Another surgery?

To try to help you, I'll explain to you and all my readers what's really going on here, and also why Weight Watchers hasn't worked for you.

Part 1: The colon removal

Krista didn't say why she had her colon removed, but the most common reasons are:

Severe diverticulitis
Colon cancer
Ulcerative colitis

Each of those conditions is a BIG RED FLAG that something is seriously wrong with your digestion.

Diverticulitis (and its predecessor, diverticulosis) is 100% caused by poor digestion. Inadequate digestion leads to wastes that don't get eliminated like they should. They get stuck along the colon wall, cause constipation and lead to the formation of the pockets (diverticula) that characterize the disease.

In addition, although there are many factors that can play into the development of cancer, the toxins and acid wastes that build up from insufficient digestion provide the ideal environment in which cancer can thrive.

Ulcerative colitis is an autoimmune condition, meaning that the immune system gets confused and attacks healthy cells in the colon, causing sores, pus, bleeding and diarrhea. However, poor digestion can aggravate an intestinal tract that is sore-infested and encourage or worsen an attack.
 

So...no matter what the underlying cause of having her colon removed, all the evidence points to Krista needing to improve her digestion.

If not, it's only a matter of time before something else goes wrong.

You see, once a diseased body part is removed, you're not out of the woods. Unless you address what caused the initial disease to begin with, something else just as bad is sure to pop up.

And when you're talking about poor digestion and buildup of wastes and toxins, that can mean cancer somewhere else, Crohn's disease (similar to colitis, but usually in the small intestine), gastritis/ulcers/acid reflux or even arthritis or fibromyalgia.

Part 2: Weight Watchers, why have you failed me?

Weight Watchers is effective at helping people track intake and gives them a support system to encourage their efforts.

Most people do take off weight at least initially by consuming fewer calories than they burn. It's strictly a mathematical formula.

But that formula works against you eventually.

You see, your body is smart and realizes that you're taking in fewer calories. So it S - L - O - W - S down your metabolic rate to keep you functioning on less food.

That means you lose fewer pounds...then eventually that scale number becomes stubborn and will not budge.

Clearly calorie counting or reduced intake is not the real key to taking weight off and keeping it off. If it was, then there would have been no more overweight people in the world once Weight Watchers came on the scene.
