It's scary to
think of how much needless suffering is taking place
because incorrect and dangerous health advice is given to people
who don't know any better.
That's not to say
that the people doling out the advice have ill intentions
-- it's more likely that they themselves don't know any better
either.
I recently read an
article on IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) that gave such harmful
nutritional advice that my hair stood on end! Clearly it was
written by someone who has no idea what they are talking about,
and will cause even MORE misery to people suffering with IBS who
follow it.
Here are
two scary
excerpts from the article:
*******************
excerpt: "IBS sufferers should opt for a soluble fiber like white bread
instead of wheat bread, as well as grains like white rice. Whole
wheat products should be avoided."
excerpt: "Sugar is not known to worsen symptoms, but fat is a common
IBS trigger food and should be avoided."
*******************
These
"suggestions" not only have no basis in science, but they are
quite likely to make IBS WORSE -- MUCH WORSE.
Here's why:
Bad
suggestion #1: Avoid whole wheat products
To begin with, white bread is completely devoid of natural fiber. It
has none. And it's equally nutritious as eating an old shoe. How
it can be called a "soluble fiber" is beyond me. No doubt
a closed-door deal with a food exec and a politician.
Same goes for
white rice and pasta.
Anything derived
from [processed] grains (in this case wheat and rice) lacks the
natural fiber layer from the grain because it's been removed in
processing. What's left is a refined carbohydrate that turns to
pure sugar in your body once it's broken down.
This spells BIG
trouble for IBS sufferers for two reasons:
1- The lack of
natural fiber
A lack of natural
fiber in your foods causes constipation -- something IBS
sufferers are intimately familiar with.
Fiber is the
material that bulks up your stools and helps them pass through
the intestines. So when you don't have fiber from foods like
whole grains, fruits and vegetables to help move things along,
you're far more likely to be constipated.
AND your wastes
can get stuck along the colon wall...which will eventually lead
to diverticulosis and diverticulitis in addition to IBS.
Are you beginning
to see that the article writer knows absolutely nothing about
curing IBS?
2- Sugar does
more than pack on pounds
When refined
carbohydrates are broken down and converted to sugar, the sugar
feeds the harmful bacteria in your intestines and makes them
outnumber the beneficial bacteria. This can hamper your
digestion, weaken your intestinal wall and make IBS symptoms
even worse.
Plus, having
imbalanced intestinal flora can lead to SIBO -- small intestinal
bacterial overgrowth -- which can cause or worsen IBS.
SIBO occurs when
bacteria from the large intestine "back up" into the small
intestine. This causes certain foods (which are normally
digested in the large intestine) to begin being broken down too
soon -- in the small intestine.
Since the small
intestine is not equipped to do the job of the large intestine,
this leads to tremendous gas, bloating and pain -- symptoms IBS
sufferers deal with all the time.
That articles is
looking dumber by the second, isn't it?
Bad
suggestion #2: Sugar's OK but fat is nay
Sugar is not known
to worsen IBS symptoms? That's about as ridiculous as saying the
throbbing in your thumb has nothing to do with the hammer you
just slammed it with.
Eating sugar can
lead to what I described in item 2 above -- harmful bacteria
overgrowth -- and a worsening of IBS symptoms.
Concerning fat,
your body (especially your brain) NEEDS healthy fats for proper
cell functioning, hormone production and nutrient absorption.
Eating very little
fat can lead to learning difficulties, memory problems, hormonal
imbalances and depression, among other things.
I'm convinced that
the writer of that article got the info from his aunt Bertha who
got it from her doctor, who got it from a pharmaceutical sales
rep.
And even though it
was only briefly mentioned in this article, we can't forget
about...
The "trigger
food" theory
IBS sufferers try
to determine "trigger foods" but, as many will tell you, they
can't quite nail their attacks down to any specific food.
Because sometimes a certain food will seem to cause an attack
and other times it's fine.
And other times
they eat foods they though were "safe," then all of a sudden
find themselves rushing to the toilet.
Darn frustrating,
huh?
Now, the reason
the "trigger food" theory doesn't hold water is because the real
problem is not so much the specific foods you eat, but what
foods you eat TOGETHER that leads to IBS symptoms.
What's
REALLY causing IBS symptoms
When you eat
combinations of foods that don't digest well together, you put
your entire digestive tract into a state of stress.
Your foods aren't
broken down like they should be, and that's what leads to the
very familiar gas and bloating.
Plus, your wastes
don't move through your intestines like they're supposed to.
That means hello constipation or diarrhea.
That's why you
haven't been able to pinpoint any consistent trigger foods.
Because it's not ONE specific food that's doing this to you --
it's what you eat TOGETHER.
Fear not...
I can help you.
I can show you how
to put scrumptious meals together that are easy to digest and
will help keep your intestinal tract calm and running smoothly.

PPPS: Paula says even old hens with IBS can feel better:
Dear Sherry,
I
have been following your Great Taste No Pain plan and had to
write to tell you that I feel a tremendous improvement in my
digestive system.
I
appreciate the precise and easy to read and follow instructions
about the food combinations, and also the fact that there are a
few days sample menu's to choose from. The options make life
easier.
I
had a stubborn case of IBS and diverticulitis, with
complications of adhesions from several surgeries. I was also
dealing with a hernia as well as much arthritic and back pain.
I
am happy to report that ALL these conditions, even a reoccurring
urinary irritation, are rapidly improving. I am never hungry and
have even lost my cravings for sweets.
So, this all adds to a hearty and heartfelt thanks for your
dedication to helping people who are suffering. I have been able
to stop all digestive aids and medications with no ill effects.
Frankly, I am amazed at how wonderfully our bodies are designed.
If we treat ourselves right, the body helps itself.
I
shall be 80 my next birthday, so even old hens can get better!
Paula

As we age, our
supply of digestive enzymes decreases. This is especially
true for people who eat lots of processed food and hard to
digest meals. Foods such as these require LOTS of enzymes to
break them down and over time your body's ability to produce
enough enzymes is diminished. Nothing can make you feel older
than gas, bloating, heartburn and constipation from ineffective
digestion and too few enzymes. Give your body the support it
needs and feel great inside with Digestizol Max natural digestive enzyme supplement. Learn more about Digestizol Max and all the ways it can help you
here.
