How To Be Thinner Than Your Friends (and better looking)

Here's a sobering thought for you...

A recent study funded by the CDC projected that by the year 2030, 42% (over 4 out of 10) of American adults will be obese, compared to about 35% right now. And 11% of us will be SEVERELY obese, compared to 6% today.

But what really makes you fall off your chair is when you take a look at the past and compare it to now...

Since 1980 (just 32 years ago), our obesity rate has DOUBLED. And since 1950 it's TRIPLED!

Now the obvious question here is, why?

What has changed between 1950 and now to cause us to continue to balloon out with no foreseeable end in sight?

Well, it's not such a mystery, folks. The two main things that have changed are our levels of activity and our food.

And both are the MAJOR contributors to increasing numbers of us resembling the Michelin Man.

Here's the scoop.

No more Leave it to Beaver

Our society has become more sedentary, and this is primarily a reflection of the age of technology.

And while we've seen some truly invaluable developments in the world of computers and all things electronic, what it means is more of us are sitting on our keysters at desk jobs, watching 700 channels in our living rooms and surfing the net than ever before in our history.

It also means that our kids are foregoing the bike and playground and instead playing electronic games, texting friends or watching YouTube videos.

It's simple mathematics:

Less movement = less energy (calories) burned = a fatter you.

The Big Kahuna

Although our disappearing level of activity causes many a scale number to rise, far and away the "Big Kahuna" behind our obesity rate is our food.

"Food" no longer means just meat, vegetables, fruit and dairy products like it did 60+ years ago. Instead it's usually a package of stuff that maybe was food at one time but has been so stripped, processed, preserved, chemicalized and flavor enhanced that it's basically a foreign substance to your body and anything but nutritious.

Fast food restaurants are the same. They just cook the stuff in packages for you and serve it with smile.

According to the USDA, 19,047 new food products were introduced into grocery stores in 2009. And you can bet your bottom dollar they're not new cuts of meat or bottled water! Over 1/4 of them were candy, gum and snacks and another 1/5 were beverages (primarily sodas and sweetened drinks).

It's to the point where grocery stores shouldn't even be called "grocery" stores anymore--they should be "package stores" instead.

Because these "packages" are packing the pounds on people in record numbers.

Here's why:

Ring my bell

To see why processed (boxed, bagged, canned, bottled) foods are so deadly, you need to understand how your body works.

The human body was designed perfectly -- its hunger signal gets triggered when you physically need nutrients.

In a perfect world, this would be when your stomach is empty and it's been a while since you ate. Then you would sense your hunger, eat some food, your body would get nourished again and you'd feel satisfied.

Unfortunately, our foods of today have screwed up Nature's perfect system.

Thanks to processed junk food, fast food and gargantuan meals that are next to impossible to digest, our bodies are not getting nourished like they should (and once did).

Processed food and fast food are devoid of any naturally occurring nutrients and are little more than refined carbs and unhealthy trans-fats--neither of which provide an speck of nutrition yet contain MASSIVE numbers of calories.

So when you eat these non-foods, even though your stomach may be ready to burst, your "dinner bell" will ring again soon, my friend, because your body hasn't been given the fuel it must have.

And even if you dine in a restaurant that doesn't ask, "Do you want fries with that?" or cook your meals at home, the typical American meal is a huge smorgasbord of every kind of food type under the sun, and washed down with soft drinks, sports drinks or energy drinks.

Not only does this lead to World War III in your stomach, but it creates loads of acid wastes and makes it nearly impossible for your body to absorb nutrients.

And guess what will happen very soon?

Ding Ding! Time to eat again.

Better invest in some stretchy pants and be prepared to pay for 2 seats on an airplane.
 

Make a decision...healthy and trim, or not

The worst part about this obesity epidemic is that most people simply accept being fat...that this is the way they are supposed to be...that nothing can be done...that it's "too hard" to be trim and ripped.

But just a few short decades ago, hardly anyone was obese. Most people were trim.  Hey, this isn't rocket science I'm sharing with you here.  It's common sense.  It's simple.  It's easy.
