It's no secret
there's a large number of medications that are overprescribed --
prescribed for conditions they were not designed to treat,
prescribed when they are not necessary or just prescribed WAY
too often.
Antidepressants are a
good example.
So are proton pump
inhibitors (PPIs).
But far and away THE
most overprescribed drugs are antibiotics.
The good news
Now, antibiotics do
have their positives. Many people are still living because of
them.
But the problems
started when this medical wonder began to be prescribed
increasingly when the underlying illness was actually viral --
so the antibiotics did absolutely NO good, since they only fight
bacterial infections.
In addition, they
began to be given "prophylactically" or on a preventative basis
to help prevent and control conditions like ear infections,
sinus infections or acne.
But as they say, too
much of a good thing is no good.
And antibiotics are
no exception
The not-so-good
news
A major problem with the
overprescribing of antibiotics is that bacteria are intelligent
organisms...and they can adapt and become resistant to
antibiotic "killing" action.
That means the
"wonder drug" suddenly becomes completely useless against a
potentially dangerous condition.
Another biggie is
that, while antibiotics kill harmful bacteria, they also kill
the beneficial bacteria in your body -- the bacteria that
comprise your immune system. And without a healthy population of
good bacteria from a strong immune system to keep them "in
check," any number of harmful microbes can thrive inside of you
and make you very, VERY sick.
Here are some
examples of...
The Bad Guys
Candida
Candida is a fungus
with over 200 different species. It can cause diarrhea,
bloating, gas, constipation, vaginal infections, depression,
irritability, inability to concentrate, memory loss, headaches,
hay fever, asthma and menstrual problems, just to name a few.
Clostridium
difficile (aka C. diff)
Symptoms range from
watery stools to diarrhea with bleeding and intestinal cramping.
It's estimated that 1 out of 5 people in nursing homes are
infected with C. diff, as well as many people in hospitals
recovering from surgery.
E. coli
This one needs little
explanation. You're looking at severe stomach cramps and having
it come out "both ends"--bloody diarrhea as well as nausea and
vomiting.
Helicobacter
pylori (H. pylori)
Another well-known
species, this is the bacteria that commonly causes stomach
ulcers and gastritis, and its presence indicates an increased
risk for stomach cancer too. Estimates show that nearly half of
the world's population is infected, although many have no
symptoms whatsoever.
Klebsiella
Not only can this
bacteria cause diarrhea, bladder infections, pneumonia and
prostate infections, but it's also linked with autoimmune
conditions like ankylosing spondylitis (a disease that causes
inflammation of the joints between the spinal bones) and
myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular disorder that causes weakness
of the skeletal muscles).
Oh, and it's VERY
resistant to antibiotics too. Definitely scary.
Proteus
Normally found in
feces, soil and water, proteus can cause diarrhea and GI
distress. Like Klebsiella, it's also been linked to ankylosing
spondylitis and myasthenia gravis, as well as rheumatoid
arthritis.
Pseudomonas
This is commonly the
bacteria that people are joking about when you're traveling
abroad and they say, "Don't drink the water!" It's usually
acquired from contaminated water and leads to lots of watery
diarrhea and misery.
Salmonella
Another popular but
not loved bacteria. There are actually over 2,000 types of
salmonella, and it's THE most reported cause of food poisoning
from eggs, milk products and raw meat.
And get this --
salmonella infects 38% of commercially produced uncooked
chicken! Kinda makes you want to spend a little more to go
organic, doesn't it?
Staphylococcus
aureus
This is another major
cause of food poisoning, with often intense bouts of nausea and
vomiting as well as diarrhea and cramps. It's also been linked
to certain types of colitis and toxic shock syndrome.
Yersinia
enterocolitica
This causes symptoms
similar to ulcerative colitis. It's also been linked to
autoimmune conditions like Graves' disease (hyperactive
thyroid), rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogren's syndrome (a disease
that causes symptoms including arthritis, dry eyes, dry mouth
and dysfunction of various organs).
Nothing for
free
So as you can see,
the overprescribing of antibiotics has NOT come without a dear
price. People in every city and town are living with dangerous microbes
inside them and suffering greatly as a result.
What makes that even
worse is that typically the symptoms of bacterial infection are
treated with -- you guessed it -- MORE antibiotics! So the
vicious cycle continues.
Plus, since bacterial
infections can mask themselves as other conditions like I
mentioned above, many times the treatment will be completely
inappropriate and/or ignore the root cause -- the bacterial
infection.
And heaven help you
if you've had a history of ear or sinus infections or acne. If a
medical professional tries to convince you that it's OK to take
antibiotics on a long-term or preventative basis for something
like acne, show them this email.
And get a new doctor.
What can really
help
If you've taken
antibiotics for a long time or even just recently, chances are
excellent that your population of beneficial bacteria (your
immune system) is practically non-existent.
And you're a very
attractive home to the monsters I talked about above.
But there are two
every effective ways you can help turn that around and beef up
your friendly flora and your immune system.
1- With your
diet
Whatever you eat,
your gut microbes (bacteria) eat too. But different types of
bacteria have different food preferences.
Depending on your
food choices, certain bacteria will feast while others go
hungry. So your diet is a HUGE factor in controlling the
microflora balance in your intestines and thus your immune
system.
You see, harmful
bacteria LOVE refined starchy carbohydrates, sugar and fat. They
gorge on them and multiply like rabbits, while your beneficial
bacteria (that are nourished by fresh fruits, vegetables and
whole grains) starve and die.
So to help
keep your beneficial gut bacteria fed and happy, it's crucial to
follow my advice in the Great Taste No Pain system that shows
you what to eat and how to eat it.
Great Taste No Pain
is not a diet--it is a lifestyle
that stresses the types of foods that your friendly flora love
and shows you how to combine your foods for efficient digestion
(so you nourish your flora AND say goodbye to gas, bloating,
constipation, etc.).
And Great Taste No
Pain delivers on the "Great Taste" promise. If you love to
cook and eat, all of the dishes in the recipe book are delicious
so your tongue will be happy too!

2- With
supplementation
A
medical-grade, multi-strain probiotic formula like Super Shield
can help beef up your population of beneficial bacteria and
support a strong immune system in these three different ways:
1. Selective
nutrition
Super Shield contains
FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) which are a fiber that is
nourishment for friendly (probiotic) bacteria, but cannot be
digested by harmful bacteria.
2. Natural
antibiotics
Many probiotic
bacteria produce their own "natural antibiotics."
These are not the
typical antibiotics we're used to -- they safely inhibit the
growth of, and can actually kill, many harmful bacteria.
Also, as probiotics
digest their food, their metabolic by-products can have negative
effects on harmful competitors. For example, when probiotics
digest fiber, they release acids that are similar to vinegar.
And yeasts (like Candida) don't do well in the presence of these
acids.
3. The crowded
parking lot
In addition to
probiotics killing harmful bacteria, after they do, the
probiotic bacteria in Super Shield take over the "parking
spaces" along your intestinal walls formerly taken up by the bad
bacteria.
If bacteria isn't
snugly attached to the intestinal wall, or is dead, it can get
swept away by peristalsis (the muscle contractions during
digestion that move your food along).
So the more strong
probiotics you can get to fill up your "intestinal parking lot"
the greater the chance of harmful bacteria getting swept away
when you have a bowel movement.

here.
If you've taken
antibiotics in the past or are currently on them now, it's
essential to counteract the harm they have caused and are causing to your system.
Yes, they're a
medical miracle, but that miracle does not come without a hefty
price tag -- your overall health.
So do all you can to
keep your population of beneficial bacteria high and your immune
system strong.
Let Great Taste
No Pain and Super Shield be your formula for great health and fighting
infections from within.
To your health,
Sherry Brescia
PS:
Kristi is recovering from antibiotics:
Dear Sherry,
I
am finally moved to send my story of my move to healthier life
after embracing and following the Great Taste
No Pain food plan.
My entire life I have suffered with constipation, including
memories of pain and discomfort as a very young child. At age 50
acid reflux caused a "false heart attack" but was actually GERD,
esophageal reflux disease.
The purple pill and more fiber and sleep with upper body
elevated, were recommended.
It finally hit hard when severe abdominal pain was diagnosed in
the emergency room as diverticulitis and was treated with
antibiotics, causing diarrhea and yeast infection, and Flagyl,
which makes me vomit. What a way to live!
Many years ago I had converted to whole grain products, much to
the consternation of my family, but I persisted. Now the doctors
tell me to eat more fiber, take the purple pill.
A
total of 5 attacks of diverticulitis occurred within 14 months,
and I finally acquiesced to having the diseased section of my
colon surgically removed. Fortunately, the surgeon said I didn't
qualify, because I had not had 5 hospitalization within one
calendar year. Yeah!
Then I found the Great Taste
No Pain program and also immediately started the Super Shield probiotics. I also pretty much eliminated meat
from my diet, as well as followed the food combining
instructions and eating lots and lots of delicious vegetables.
In addition to feeling much, much better, I am about 25 pounds
lighter! And for over two years I have not had an attack of
diverticulitis and do not have to take laxatives or antacids.
How is THAT for a success story?
Thank you, Sherry, for your research and publications and making
my life so much better!
June C.
